Curiositas’ database on Cosmoramas enters the DARIAH ecosystem
The database on nineteenth-century cosmoramas developed within the framework of the Curiositas project was introduced into the DARIAH–EU digital humanities platform. The entries for the mapped historical cosmoramas were added to the ROSSIO archive, the Portuguese node of this European ecosystem.
This database draws on archival research conducted within the FCT-funded research project Curiositas and documents the circulation of cosmoramas, nineteenth-century optical exhibitions, across Europe and the Americas between 1818 and 1889. A total of 195 entries on cosmoramic exhibitions were mapped across 54 distinct locations. This database forms the basis of a comprehensive data visualisation interface available on the Curiositas project website.
DARIAH–EU is a pan-European research infrastructure that connects tools, data, methods, and communities to support and promote digital research in the arts and humanities across several European countries, including Portugal (through ROSSIO). This collaboration, as well as the previous collaboration with Time Machine, highlights the relevance of the work on nineteenth-century immersive media carried out by the Curiositas Project, both in digital humanities and archival research.
