On 28 October 2026, Universidade Lusófona will host a new edition of PhD Talks, jointly organised by the doctoral programmes in Media Art and Communication (Lisbon) and Communication and Activisms (Porto).

The programme will feature keynote lectures by John Plunkett (University of Exeter, UK) and Amparo López-Meri (Universitat Jaume I, Spain).

John Plunkett will present Remaking ‘Old Media’ in Contemporary Media Arts. Focusing on nineteenth-century media and visual culture, Plunkett explores the connections between Victorian media technologies and contemporary digital and immersive experiences.

Amparo López-Meri’s talk, titled Rethinking Narratives: Media Activism, Social Transformation and Peacebuilding, will focus on the transformation of journalism in digital environments, particularly the evolving relationships between media, politics and civic participation.

The event will also feature a short presentation by Diana Dias, Pro-Rector for Science and Innovation,  about the Doctoral College at Universidade Lusófona.
